Green Activities for Kids
PIGGY BANK
Before throwing away empty baby food boxes, here are fun recycling projects for you and your kids. Create a piggy bank from used boxes.
An adult help is required.
Materials: Empty baby food box, Acrylic paints, Brushes, Gesso, (Optional)Sticker, napkins, pictures, Sharp Knife
1. Apply gesso. It’s a primer for painting.
2. Paint the box with any color you like.
3. Decoration: When the box is dry, your kids can decorate it any way they like: colorful stickers, drawing with acrylic paints.
You can use your kid's photos to decorate the box - print some photos, cut around the picture and make a collage.
If you are familiar the napkin technique it can add a nice touch to the box.
There are plenty of decoration options, let your child use his/her imagination.
4. Use a sharp knife to cut a small slit on the lid.

PLANTING TREES
Planting a tree will benefit you and your kids for years to come and will teach them the meaning of being responsible for their actions. You can plant a tree in your back yard, in your neighborhood, school, local park or wherever you and your kid decide to.

Start a collection (outdoor)
Start collecting rocks, feathers, plants (where appropriate), or other freebies from nature. Check out or purchase books about the subject of your collection.
Learn to identify the various plants, rocks, and birds. Prepare to preserve and display your collection - maybe a flower press for plants (this can be as simple as an old phone book), and a shadow box for displaying rocks and feathers.

Search for Wildlife (outdoor)
Using a simple pair of binoculars, you and your child can watch birds, butterflies, deer, and other wildlife.
Once again, enhance the experience with books. Consider a scrap book of where your child can paste her pictures or write her impressions and thoughts about viewing wildlife.

The insect world (outdoor)
This holds much intrigue for children. Bugs are fascinating, beautiful, sort of scary, and somewhat gross. They are perfect for kids!
A little simple equipment can help. A magnifying glass is a good start. You can also get various kits that include an insect habitat and even a vacuum for capturing your insects.
