King's College (Cambridge)
King’s efforts to improve environmental sustainability began, like many things at King’s, as a spontaneous grassroots movement amongst students, staff, and Fellows alike. From its commitment to protecting Rare Breeds to its embracing of environmentally-friendly technologies, King’s has shown an intuitive dedication to green issues. 2009 saw the coordination of this passion and commitment. The college implemented an Environmental Policy, which asserted its commitment to acting sustainably at every level of its institutional operations. In 2008, MEI formed a dedicated "Green Team" to implement environmental programs on a global basis. In the U.S., MEI initiated a trade-in program for older Series 2000 validators. Over 5,000 units (3 tons) of used MEI validators have been recycled and the numbers continue to grow. Instead of being disposed of in landfills, the products are disassembled and the components returned to the market. As a result of MEI's leadership in recycling, some bottlers are beginning to send their old vending machines to a recycler, rather than to a metal scrap yard. Global activities for the year include. XSEED Preschool (Banglore, India)
The XSEED Preschool, Sarjapur Road, Bangalore, celebrated a children's carnival on Saturday, August 28th at their school premises. The carnival was primarily aimed at creating an awareness in the young minds the importance of going green. The preschool emphasizes appreciating and protecting the environment through the principles of the 3 R’s –Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
